Part Two: The Warmth Within an Organization I See You | Letting Names Become Living People Again At work, you're just a job title and a résumé. At school, you're just a field of study and a few grades. We spend our days together, yet know nothing about each other. Where someone comes from, what they've been through, why they're fascinated by some obscure pursuit, what they've quietly been learning lately—these are the things that can bring two hearts truly close. Often, they go a whole lifetime unsaid. So I'd like to make a profile card that can be updated at any time. It isn't for showing off an impressive résumé, or for scoring your performance. It's simply a place for the real you: what you like, what you dislike, what you're good at, where you're all thumbs, and the stories behind those likes and dislikes. You don't have to package yourself as a flawless grown-up. Perhaps you'll discover that the quiet colleague at the next desk is just as absorbed in the same obscure science fiction novel as you are. Perhaps the classmate who sits in the corner would be happy to teach you a skill you've been longing to learn but could never find a way into. Or perhaps you're entirely different, and that very difference opens a door to a new world. A card can't force people into a bond. It simply makes it easier to say those first few words. The sense of togetherness I want doesn't come from slogans calling for unity. It comes from discovering, one day, just how interesting, how full of life, the people working beside you really are.
